Technical foundation

What Is Stainless Steel Welded Wire Mesh?

Stainless steel welded wire mesh is made by resistance-welding stainless steel wires at each intersection to form a rigid and uniform grid. Unlike woven wire mesh, the wires do not pass over and under each other. The welded structure provides stable openings and good dimensional consistency for guards, enclosures, partitions, racks and fabricated panels. SS304, SS316 and low-carbon variants are available when the application requires different corrosion-resistance or welding considerations.

We supply 316 stainless steel welded wire mesh in rolls, panels and cut-to-size sheets when the required grade and product form are confirmed. For an accurate selection, confirm the material grade, opening or pitch, wire diameter, roll or panel dimensions, edge treatment, flatness, quantity and required tolerances. Provide the target application or drawing so the final construction can be reviewed before quotation.

Industrial use

Applications

Machine Guards

Welded mesh is used for machine guarding where rigid openings, visibility and secure fixing are required. Confirm opening size, wire diameter and mounting details for the equipment.

Partitions & Enclosures

Panels can be specified for partitions and enclosures. Confirm finished dimensions, panel flatness, support spacing and edge treatment before production.

Racks & Baskets

Welded mesh can be supplied as panels or fabricated parts for racks, baskets and handling assemblies. Share load, geometry and finish requirements for review.

OEM Fabrication

Drawing-based OEM work can be reviewed for cut-to-size, bending, framing and welded components. Sample approval is recommended for non-standard parts.

Use the 304 vs 316 wire mesh selection guideto compare material choices for the service environment. If controlled woven openings are more important than fixed welded intersections, comparestainless steel woven wire mesh.

For order acceptance, review dimension inspection examplesand material certificates and test record guidance. Agree the welded mesh opening, wire diameter, panel or roll dimensions and required batch documents before production.

Production workflow

Manufacturing & Quality Control

  1. Material Confirmation

Confirm the requested stainless steel grade and any material documentation before production.

  2. Wire Setup & Welding

Buyer questions

Stainless Steel Welded Wire Mesh FAQ

What is the difference between pitch and clear opening in welded wire mesh?

Pitch is the centre-to-centre distance between adjacent parallel wires. Clear opening is the unobstructed distance between the wire surfaces. For a square grid with equal wire diameters, the nominal clear opening is the pitch minus one wire diameter.

Why can a 100 mm pitch have an approximately 94 mm clear opening?

If the wire diameter is 6 mm and the centre-to-centre pitch is 100 mm, the nominal clear opening is approximately 94 mm. Stating pitch, clear opening and wire diameter separately prevents ambiguity when comparing welded mesh specifications.

How are welded wire mesh intersections made and checked?

Crossing wires are joined by resistance welding, using controlled heat and pressure at each intersection. Inspection can include weld continuity, grid dimensions, wire diameter, opening or pitch, surface condition and agreed weld-strength checks when required by the project.

Should I choose welded wire mesh rolls or flat panels?

Rolls are suitable when the wire diameter and mesh construction allow the product to be coiled and continuous lengths are useful. Flat panels are preferred for heavier wire, rigid guards, frames and assemblies where handling, shape retention and flatness are important.

What affects the flatness of a welded wire mesh panel?

Panel flatness is influenced by wire diameter, pitch, panel dimensions, welding heat, edge configuration and any cutting or forming process. State the intended frame or assembly and any flatness tolerance before production so the requirement can be reviewed.

What edge treatments are available for welded wire mesh?

Welded mesh can be cut with projecting wire ends, trimmed closer to the outer wire, or prepared for framing and further fabrication. The achievable finish depends on the wire diameter, pitch and cut position. Define the acceptable projection or provide an edge-detail drawing.

Do welded wire mesh openings remain fixed during cutting and fabrication?

Because the wires are joined at their intersections, welded mesh retains its grid more effectively than an unwelded or woven construction. Cutting can still leave unsupported edge wires, and bending or welding the mesh into an assembly can affect local geometry, so edge support and fabrication details should be reviewed.

What dimensional tolerances should be defined for welded mesh?

Define which dimensions are critical: wire diameter, pitch or clear opening, roll width, panel length and width, squareness, flatness and edge projection. Applicable tolerances depend on the construction and manufacturing route and should be agreed for the finished supply form.
