Hole diameter and center distance determine the open area. At the same diameter and pitch, a 60° staggered pattern gives a higher open area than a straight layout. Center distance is measured from the center of one hole to the center of the next.

Calculation formulas & assumptions
d = hole diameter, p = center distance, t = thickness (all in mm); ρ = density in g/cm³.
Open area (%)
60° staggered: π / (2√3) × (d/p)² × 100
Straight: π / 4 × (d/p)² × 100
Weight per m²
W = t × ρ × (1 − Open area / 100)
Sheet weight
W × Length × Width / 1,000,000
The estimate assumes a uniform round-hole pattern across the sheet. Solid edge margins, coating, tolerances, frames and fabrication details can change the delivered weight.
Perforated metal calculator questions
How is perforated metal open area calculated?
For round holes, open area depends on hole diameter, center distance and arrangement. The calculator uses the standard straight or 60° staggered round-hole formulas and reports the result as a percentage.
Does the weight include the holes?
Yes. The estimated weight subtracts the calculated open area from the solid sheet volume and applies the selected material density.
Can I use this result for a final order?
Use the result for preliminary sourcing and quotation planning. Final weight can vary with edge margins, hole layout at the sheet edge, tolerances, finish and fabrication. Send a drawing for confirmation.
How do I choose hole diameter, pitch and open area?
Choose hole diameter and pitch together with the required airflow, screening, visibility, strength or acoustic performance. Send the target open area or application to YueChu Metal for technical review.
Which materials does this perforated metal calculator support?
Select carbon steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel 304 or 316, aluminum, copper, titanium Grade 1/2, Nickel 200/201 or Alloy 330. Each preset uses a nominal material density. Use Custom density for another alloy or a density confirmed by your material data sheet.
Can you supply perforated metal sheet cut to size?
Yes. YueChu Metal can review drawings or written specifications for sheet length, width, thickness, edge margin, hole pattern and quantity before confirming cut-to-size production.
Can this tool calculate perforated metal sheet price?
This tool estimates weight and open area, not final price. Price depends on material grade, thickness, tooling, hole pattern, sheet size, quantity, finish, packing and destination. Request a perforated metal sheet quote for project pricing.
What information should I send for a perforated metal sheet quotation?
Send material and grade, thickness, hole shape, hole diameter, pitch, open area, sheet dimensions, quantity, finish, application, packing requirements and destination.
Is the calculator result suitable for a final production order?
Use it for early planning, freight estimation and quotation discussions. Final production weight can change because of edge margins, tolerances, layout at sheet edges, finish and fabrication details.
How do I enter a custom material density?
Choose Custom density in the Material list and enter a positive value in g/cm³. Divide a density in kg/m³ by 1,000 before entering it: 4,510 kg/m³ equals 4.51 g/cm³. Density changes the weight estimate, while open area depends on the hole geometry.
Plan Perforated Metal Sheet Specifications Before You Request a Quote
Use this perforated metal sheet calculator to estimate weight, open area and solid area for round-hole sheets in steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel, aluminum, copper, titanium and nickel. Preset densities and custom density support early material planning for fabricators, architects and purchasing teams.
Enter the sheet size, material, thickness, hole diameter, pitch and hole arrangement to create an initial specification. The result helps with material planning, freight estimation and quotation discussions before production.
