Pre-crimped woven wire cloth

What is stainless steel crimped wire mesh?

Stainless steel crimped wire mesh is woven from wires formed into a crimp pattern before weaving. The formed wires locate the crossings and help keep openings consistent. Also called pre-crimped woven wire mesh, crimped wire cloth or screen cloth, it is specified by clear aperture, wire diameter, crimp type and panel dimensions.

Choose the construction

Double, intermediate, lock and flat top crimp

The crimp pattern controls how wires sit at and between intersections. Names can vary between catalogues: include a drawing or photograph where an exact pattern is important. The opening-to-wire ratio, support and service conditions also affect the selection.

Double crimp

Wires are preformed in both directions and interlaced in a regular pattern. A common starting point for square-opening screening and general industrial panels.

Specify: Opening, wire diameter and stability required at the intersections.

Intermediate crimp

Additional crimps occur between intersections. This arrangement helps locate crossing wires when the opening is large relative to wire diameter.

Specify: Crimp spacing in both directions and the complete weave pattern.

Lock crimp / locking crimp

Formed seats hold the crossing wires at the intersections. Consider this construction where opening stability and a consistent panel appearance matter.

Specify: The lock pattern, aperture tolerances, panel size and edge details.

Flat top crimp

Crimping is arranged to create a comparatively flat working face on one side. Consider it for screening surfaces where the working-face orientation matters.

Specify: Which side is the working face, wire geometry and mounting orientation.

Match the alloy to the environment

304 and 316 stainless steel crimped wire mesh

304 / AISI 304

A common choice for general industrial screens, indoor decorative panels and equipment with manageable corrosion exposure. Include cleaning chemicals, temperature and surface requirements.

304 material and verification →

316 / low-carbon grade requests

Consider molybdenum-bearing 316 for more demanding chloride or chemical environments. If 316L is specified for a fabricated part, request the exact grade and supporting material evidence.

316 material and verification →

State the grade and wire product standard on the purchase order. Handheld XRF can help identify alloying elements but cannot establish the carbon content of an L grade. For the material selection factors, see 304 vs 316 stainless steel wire mesh.

Aperture first, then wire and pattern

Crimped wire mesh specification: opening, wire diameter and open area

Clear opening is the free space between adjacent wires. It is different from centre-to-centre pitch. Give the units and both directions where the opening is rectangular. For screening replacement parts, start with the aperture, wire diameter, crimp pattern and finished drawing.

YueChu's crimped mesh specification range below covers 2–50 mm clear openings and corresponding wire diameters from 0.8–6.0 mm. Choose the wire range for your aperture, then specify 304 or 316, crimp pattern and finished dimensions. Other combinations can be submitted for review. Confirm the exact wire diameter, tolerances and supply form in the quotation.

Inch decimals are rounded conversions of the specified metric opening. Expressions marked ≈ are approximate comparisons: 1″ is exactly 25.4 mm and 2″ is exactly 50.8 mm. Specify the exact unit and opening on your order. The formulas above assume equal square spacing and round wires; crimp geometry can affect actual open area. Open area alone does not predict screen capacity or load resistance.

Made to the finished dimensions

Custom crimped mesh panels, sheets, rolls and trays

Sheets and cut-to-size panels

Specify usable width × length, flatness, squareness, edge finish and quantity. A request for a 100 × 85 cm panel means 1000 × 850 mm; also include aperture, wire diameter and crimp type.

Rolls and cut lengths

Rollability depends on wire thickness and rigidity. Request roll width, usable length, core and winding requirements; heavier constructions may be more suitable as flat sheets.

Framed or hooked screens

Send the frame section, fixing method, hook profile and orientation. For replacement screen cloth, identify tensioning direction and the dimensions of the existing mounting arrangement.

OEM / ODM parts and trays

For equipment screens, tray inserts, baskets or development projects, provide a drawing revision, load, joining details and inspection requirements. Fabrication and development scope are confirmed before accepting the order.

Decorative panels need an agreed appearance sample, surface finish and edge treatment. For façade, railing or other structural assemblies, include the project loads, support and fastening design. Product supply does not replace engineering review of the installed system.

Screening, guarding and architectural use

Where stainless steel crimped wire mesh is used

Industrial screening and separation

Specify particle distribution, throughput, abrasion, blinding risk and mounting. For vibrating equipment, include tensioning, hook geometry and the existing screen drawing.

Machine guards and equipment screens

Specify the opening, frame and fastening system. The complete guard design must satisfy the applicable access and strength requirements; mesh geometry alone does not establish a safety rating.

Decorative and architectural panels

For partitions, infill panels and decorative stainless steel crimped wire mesh, agree visual pattern, surface condition, orientation, panel joints and a physical sample.

Filter support and coarse strainers

Use aperture and open area to compare support or coarse separation duties. A crimped screen is not automatically a micron-rated filtration medium.

Process trays and baskets

For a stainless steel crimped wire mesh tray, include load, frame, joining details, temperature and cleaning. Drawing-based fabrication is reviewed before quotation.

OEM and replacement components

Provide a controlled drawing revision and acceptance requirements so subsequent orders use the same agreed specification.

For fine particle retention, compare stainless steel filter mesh and Dutch filter cloth. For a joined grid rather than woven crossings, compare stainless steel welded wire mesh. The woven wire mesh guide explains the wider construction family.

Standards with a defined scope

Crimped screen standards, inspection and material documents

  • ISO 4783-3:1981: a guide to preferred aperture and wire diameter combinations for pre-crimped or pressure-welded screens.
  • ISO 14315:1997: technical requirements and testing for industrial wire screens.
  • ASTM E2016-22: general industrial woven wire cloth; includes mesh tolerance requirements for double-crimp square mesh. Agree the applicable provisions and units.

ISO 9044:2016 excludes pre-crimped and welded wire screens. A standard reference must match the actual construction; it is not a certificate or evidence that a particular batch passed inspection.

Agree the acceptance checklist before production

  • Material designation and required mill certificate or other traceability record.
  • Aperture, wire diameter, crimp pattern, weave consistency and permitted tolerances.
  • Usable dimensions, squareness, flatness, edges and any fabricated joints.
  • Sample approval, inspection method, sampling and acceptance criteria.
  • Labels, quantity and packing that protect panel geometry and edges.

Tell us whether you need a supplier certificate of conformity, MTC/MTR or a sample-specific inspection report. Document scope, issuer and any testing charge are confirmed with the order. Stainless steel grade alone does not establish food-contact approval or CE marking; identify the finished use and destination requirement.

What affects a crimped wire mesh price list or quote?

A meaningful quote identifies grade, aperture, wire diameter, crimp pattern, finished area, quantity, cutting yield and any fabrication. Compare inspection, documents, packing and freight on the same basis. The lowest price is useful only when the supplied construction and acceptance requirements are comparable.

Prepare your inquiry

Send: grade + aperture + wire diameter + crimp pattern + width × length + quantity. Add your application, mounting drawing, tolerance, required documents, destination and target date. If you only have an existing screen, provide clear photographs and labelled measurements for review.

Buyer questions

Stainless Steel Crimped Wire Mesh FAQ

What is stainless steel crimped wire mesh?

It is woven mesh made from stainless steel wires that are shaped before weaving. The preformed wires locate crossings and help maintain the opening geometry. Buyers specify aperture, wire diameter, crimp pattern and finished dimensions together.

What is the difference between crimped mesh and ordinary woven wire cloth?

Pre-crimped wires are formed before interlacing, while other woven cloth obtains its wire shape during weaving. Both are woven constructions, but a plain or twill weave name alone does not define a pre-crimped screen. Compare the complete geometry and manufacturing route.

Should I choose 304 or 316 stainless steel crimped mesh?

304 is a common option for general industrial and decorative uses. Consider molybdenum-bearing 316 for more demanding chloride or chemical exposure, after reviewing the medium, concentration, temperature and cleaning conditions. Neither grade guarantees suitability for every environment.

How do lock crimp and flat top crimp differ?

Lock crimp uses shaped seats to locate crossing wires. Flat top construction provides a comparatively flat working face on one side. Specify the required pattern and orientation rather than treating either name as a strength or service-life guarantee.

Is aperture the same as mesh count or pitch?

No. Aperture is the clear opening; pitch is the distance between wire centres; mesh count is the count per linear inch. For uniform square geometry, pitch equals aperture plus wire diameter, and mesh count equals 25.4 divided by pitch in millimetres.

Can I order a 100 × 85 cm crimped mesh panel?

Send a 1000 × 850 mm panel request with grade, aperture, wire diameter, crimp type, quantity and edge requirements. We review the construction, usable dimensions and tolerances before quotation; the panel size alone is not a complete specification.

Can you quote custom crimped wire mesh sheets, rolls and OEM parts?

Yes. Send the specification or drawing for sheets, panels, cut pieces, rolls or fabricated parts. Suitable supply form depends on wire thickness, rigidity and edge design. OEM and development requests are reviewed for manufacturing feasibility before an offer is issued.

What determines the crimped stainless steel wire mesh price?

Alloy, aperture, wire diameter, crimp pattern, usable area, quantity, edge processing, fabrication, inspection and packing affect price. Request a quotation on the same complete specification when comparing suppliers; freight and required documents should also be identified.

What are the MOQ and delivery time?

Minimum quantity and lead time depend on the selected construction, material procurement, weaving, cutting and inspection. Include your sample or trial quantity, destination and required date so availability and commercial terms can be confirmed.

Does ISO 9044 apply to pre-crimped screens?

ISO 9044:2016 excludes pre-crimped and welded wire screens. ISO 4783-3 covers preferred aperture and wire combinations for pre-crimped or pressure-welded screens; ISO 14315 addresses industrial wire screen technical requirements and testing. Agree the applicable scope and edition for the order.

Is stainless steel crimped mesh automatically CE certified?

No. Stainless steel grade or a reference to a mesh standard does not establish CE marking. Identify the finished product, destination and applicable legislation, then agree the required documentation before ordering.

Can crimped mesh be used for fine micron filtration?

A crimped screen may provide coarse separation or a supporting layer. For a fine particle-retention requirement, compare square woven cloth or Dutch filter cloth and define the rating and test method. A clear opening or open-area figure is not a measured retention efficiency.
